CASTERTON’S Polocrosse Club is continuing its exceptional run into the Australian championships, taking out the South Australian Polocrosse Championships at the weekend in both Divisions 1 and 2.
After playing off in all finals and taking out the A Grade at its home tournament last month, the Cats were keen to keep the momentum going and did not disappoint and in addition to the two finals wins, brought home seven individual accolades from the weekend’s tournament.
In Division 2, Casterton was too good for Yorke Peninsula in the final and siblings Bridie and Bailey Carlin were named Best 1 and Best 2, for the tournament; Bridie was also named joint winner of the Best Junior trophy, for the weekend.
In Division 1, the Cats continued the outstanding form shown in their win at Oakbank the previous weekend, with a convincing 22 to four win in the final, also over Yorke Peninsula.
Rick Smith led from the front for the Cats, with 15 goals and was named Best 1, while his ride, Shadow, was best horse for the tournament and in a clean-sweep for the Cats in the individual awards, with Hamish Carlin named Best 3 and Darren Carlin, Best 2.
This weekend the Cats head to the Australian Polocrosse Championships at Werribee, before making the trek to Sale for the Victorian championships, the following weekend.
The club is also celebrating the selection of Phoebe Carlin, Jess Bowman, Asha Maguire and Harry Boyle, who will play for Victoria in their respective classes at the prestigious Barastoc Interstate Series and Shell Cup Carnival, held at Warwick, QLD in May.
Bailey and Bridie Carlin will also represent the state at the Albury Autumn classic, this month.
