CASTERTON Little Athletics Centre is celebrating an outstanding year for its members, with more than 50 awards presented at its annual end-of-year celebration.
Like the previous season, the group had to contend with unseasonably wet weather on several occasions, but did manage to run a successful program for its athletes.
This Summer saw the centre send members to regional, state and national championships, with a swag of medals making their way home to Casterton.
On the track and field at home, the centre is also celebrating two new club records among some its youngest members, as well as dozens of personal bests on the books for its members.
In the Under 7 Boys age group, Dougie Harvey broke the 50-metre sprint record not once, but twice this season, running the dash in 9.50 seconds early in the season and following it up with a 9.34-second run after the Christmas break.
Under 7 girl athlete, Amity Rhook, also proved to be a talented short-distance runner, also breaking the old 50-metre record when she ran 10.34 seconds.
Star Achiever Awards are presented by the club each year, to the athlete in each age group who achieves the greatest number of personal bests throughout the season, recognising the greatest personal improvement.
This year saw ties for Star Achiever in two age groups, including a three-way-tie in the oldest age group, the Under 16 girls.
The centre also presented five coveted shields – four perpetual trophies named in memory and honour of late, outstanding contributors to local Little Athletics and one sponsored by the Casterton Old Court House Community Centre, in keeping with its ongoing commitment to local families.
