Drags season finale cancelled

WITH inclement weather expected tomorrow, the South Coast Drag Racing Association has been forced to cancel its Powernats burnout 2022-23 season finale.

And while it’s a very disappointing way to cap off the season, it’s something that spokesman Ben Phillips, along with the rest of the association, has gotten used to over the summer.

“It was just down to the forecast, we were looking at plenty of rain and it just didn’t make sense to go ahead with it,” Phillips said.

“There was a thought to delay the event to another time, but we’re not expecting the weather to turn for the better in the coming weeks so it just made sense to can it.”

With rain plaguing the region throughout October and November last year, it was a challenging summer of racing for the association.

Regardless, Phillips said it has still been a great season for all involved, with the association having still hosted a number of quality events.

“We’re really pleased with the events that went ahead, they some really good meetings that were well supported,” he said.

But while this season has reached its conclusion, there remains plenty of work to be done behind the scenes.

“The committee is busy at work preparing our 2023-24 season calendar, we need to work in with the other drag racing associations across the country to limit clashes as much as we possibly can,” Phillips said.

“Our season will probably run from November through to April, similar to how this season was planned out.

“Let’s hope we get an earlier start to the warm weather next time around.”
