IT is a top of the table clash in the Western Victoria Female Football League senior competition on Sunday when Tyrendarra travel to take on South Warrnambool.
So far the Darras have dropped just one game, which was their round one clash against South Warrnambool, with tomorrow’s game a headline act.
Currently undefeated South Warrnambool will pose a big challenge for Tyrendarra who have shown plenty of improvement since their inaugural season in 2022.
Tyrendarra coach Glenn Kane said the team has seen some new faces come through the ranks and they look forward to taking on the ladder leaders come Sunday.
“I feel like we’ve really improved since the first time we played them, we’ve got some more players in now and another six or seven games under our belt,” he said.
“We’ve seen some real growth in the team’s game and the players individually.
“They’re now playing a certain style of football and there are more passages of play that are connecting and the systems are evolving.”
Last time the two sides met it was a 3.5 (23) to 2.2 (14) victory for South Warrnambool with some of their contingent coming out of the junior ranks showing plenty of talent.
“South’s outside run is quite good and last time we played them their ability to read the ball was a bit better than us,” Kane said.
“They have a lot of juniors coming through their ranks and they are really handy.”
Despite only scoring one point until the final quarter in their previous clash, Kane said the team has lifted and he expects to hit the scoreboard more moving forward.
“I think the improvement is showing with the scoring, we’re consistently scoring more and we have a great spread of players contributing,” he said.
“The technical skills are getting a lot better but the capacity to understand a bit more game sense is also improving.
“When it comes to picking the best each week it used to be a handful of players but now there is a real spread across the group.”
