JACK WALDRON was awarded life membership for his 25 years of outstanding service to the Hamilton Bowling Club at the club’s annual general meeting last Monday.
Jack Waldron joined the Hamilton Bowling Club in 1998 and was asked to join the match committee about four weeks later.
The chairman of the match committee resigned, and Waldron was in charge where he remained for 17 years, which also meant being on the club’s management committee for all that time.
Waldron’s hard work secured a grant, and the club bought its first computer, printer and photocopier, connecting it up to the internet and email.
He served one year as club secretary and became a qualified umpire and coach.
The club’s Try Bowls programs have been a huge success thanks to his enthusiasm and hard work.
Waldron has ran about 20 programs over as many years and about half our present members started this way.
The avid player has won all of the club’s seven championships, some multiple times and several association championships, also reaching the state finals in the fours.
Waldron proposed the idea to have a Classic Pairs tournament 14 years ago and organized the first 10 tournaments and umpired the event since its inception. He has been a great promotor of the club and bowls by writing the bowls column in The Spectator for 15 years.
