Off-road victory for Stevenson in the navigator seat

PORTLAND’S own Jake Stevenson found even more success on the off-road track over the weekend, claiming first place in his class and 11th overall in round three of the Victorian Off-Road Club Shield at Nandaly.

Stevenson was navigating alongside driver Rob Gussenhoven, and said it was a great experience to help get him across the line.

“To come first in our class and 11th overall was a fantastic outcome, it was Rob’s first time out in the new vehicle, so we were really happy,” Stevenson said.

“He’s from Melbourne and I know him through mutual friends, I’ve actually raced with him before back in 2020, so it was great to be back alongside him.”

The race took place across two days, with Gussenhoven and Stevenson coming in with a time of 3hrs55mins53secs.

Stevenson said from his own personal perspective it was a great learning moment and overall, he’ll take plenty away from it.

“Being in the seat of a new vehicle was a great experience, and being alongside a different driver in a new event… I’ll take a lot away from it.”

Stevenson races his own car alongside his father Peter and said he’s hoping to get that back in action as soon as possible.

“We’re waiting on some parts for it, but once we’ve got it all ready to go, we’re hoping to head off for another Victorian or Australian Off Road Championship event soon.”
