Roos among HFNL Interleague Squads

The Hampden Football Netball League (HFNL) Interleague coaching panel has announced the initial Under-23 and Under-17 Interleague squads, with the Hamilton Kangaroos being well represented across the two squads with a total of seven players selected.

Hamish Cook and Rory Gill were selected in the Under-23 squad while Angus Kissel, Jack Jennings, Thomas Calvert, Bailey Baker and Kyle Rhook made the Under-17 squad.

The Under-23 coaching panel of Jonathan Brown, Leigh McCluskey, Chris McLaren, Dan O’Keefe and Nathan Vardy announced their squad to HFNL club coaches during the week after picking a squad of 34 players that will be reduced prior to the game against Ballarat on Saturday 1st July at Ballarat, with all clubs being initially represented.

The game between the HFNL and BFNL will be played for the Clinton Baulch Cup.

The coaches have advised that players will have a recovery session on Sunday 25th June in Warrnambool and then two training sessions on Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th June in Warrnambool at a venue to be determined.

Roos’ emerging forward, Cook and reliable midfielder, Gill said they were happy with the selections but knew they’d have to work hard to showcase their skills and make the final side.

“I haven’t really been selected in something like that before, it was good to get a bit of reward for a little bit of form, but not quite in the team yet,” Cook said.

“It’s exciting, playing with blokes around your same age with a high level of skill ability … that would be awesome (to make the final side), the coaches have played a lot of footy and good footy,” Gill said.

Coach, Hamish Waldron was impressed to see a great representation from the club in both age groups and hoped Cook and Gill could make their mark at the training sessions.

“It’s good for these two especially in the senior group … it’s a good opportunity for them to go down there and showcase their skills in front of a few recruiters who will probably be there,” he said.
