FINALS netball is still within the grasp of both Penshurst and Hawkesdale-Macarthur as all team’s head into the school holiday break with 10 rounds of the Mininera and District Netball Association 2023 season completed.
Six rounds remain for both clubs to secure a place in the post-season action, and Hawkesdale-Macarthur holds the upper hand with the Eagle’s perched on the fifth rung of the ladder a game ahead of the Bombers in sixth.
Neither team managed to secure victory on the weekend, as the Bombers became the latest team to fall to undefeated Tatyoon, 26-39 at Penshurst Recreation Reserve.
Penshurst was celebrating its First Nations culture throughout the club for the first time, but unlike the footballers the netballers failed to knock off the Hawks.
The home side was only three goals down at halftime but a 14-5 third term from Tatyoon took the wind from the Bombers sails as Rachael Mibus and Leah Mirtschin did all they could to rally their side while Zoe and Maggie Astbury were too good for Tatyoon.
Other Games
HAWKESDALE-MACARTHUR travelled to Alexandra Oval to battle second placed Ararat and despite putting up a brave showing, the Eagles failed to come away with the points, going down 38-49.
A 15-goal last term ensured the home side would carry the day despite the best efforts of Madison Kelly and Josephine Barker for the visitors, while Faith Biddle and Taryn Kelly ensured Ararat held onto the second rung on the ladder.
The battle for the wooden spoon ended with Great Western holding off a fast-finishing Moyston-Willaura 37-35 at Great Western Recreation Reserve as Ashlea Knight and Chloe Graham ensured the home side took the points.
Lismore-Derrinallum was no match for the visiting Woorndoo-Mortlake at Lake Bolac Recreation Reserve on Saturday as the visitors ran away with the victory, 56-28.
Zoe Wagstaff and Taylah Fisher were near perfect for SMW Rovers at Mininera Recreation Reserve as the pair piloted the Bulldogs to a 36-31 victory over the visiting Caramut.
