Karate Open returns for 10th competition

THE Portland Kyokushin Karate Club will host the 10th iteration of the Portland Open Border Challenge at the Portland Secondary College gym today, in what is expected to be an exciting day of action.

The event gets underway at 10am, with non-contact competition in the morning and full-contact in the afternoon.

As one of the club’s biggest events for the year, plenty of local and out of town talent will hit the mats.

Event organiser and Portland dojo operator Deb Millard said the club is looking forward to hosting the event once again, as they welcome competitors from far and wide.

“We’re expecting over 100 competitors from across Victoria, and we’ll also get people travelling from Adelaide, Mount Gambier, Millicent and more,” she said.

“We’ve got a wide variety of events across different age brackets… we can’t wait to see lots of people get down to see the action.”
