PORTLAND has unveiled its newest kits that it will be wearing for the remainder of the South West Victoria Football Association season and into the future, with their first appearance to be in a home fixture against Corangamite on Sunday.
Division one coach Stephen Von Tunk said the change was a part of the soccer club’s usual update which happens every few years.
“Normally every 2-3 years we change up the kit, just with sponsors coming and going it makes sense to do something different here and there,” Von Tunk said.
“We’re going back to our roots by having the predominantly white tops, that’s what the Panthers traditionally wore… we’d gone away from it for a few years just for practical purposes but decided to bring it back.
“The design is emulating Western United, which is the A-League side that represents our area.”
The Panthers are now set to host Corangamite coming off a two-week midseason hiatus for the entire South West Victorian Football Association, in what will be vital game in determining how the rest of the season pans out.
The Lions had Portland’s measure in round one, but only just, coming away with a 4-3 win.
“I think we’ve got what it takes to beat this side, especially having home field advantage,” Von Tunk said.
“We’ve made some additions through the break and guys have gotten refreshed and re-motivated for the rest of the season… our player availability now is the best it has been all season.”
On those additions, Von Tunk said both the incoming players, Joe Halliwell and Daniel Bennett, would prove to be integral to their success.
“Joe is a strong midfielder and Daniel is a real competitor as a defender, I’d say they’ll both push for selection in the ones before long,” he said.
Portland will host Corangamite at Friendly Societies Reserve on Sunday, with the division one match set for a 3pm start.
