GLENTHOMPSON-DUNKELD and Penshurst have won their respective matches on Saturday to gain a spot in the Mininera and District Football League (MDFL) top five and set up a blockbuster contest at Penshurst this coming weekend.
Penshurst travelled to Great Western Recreation Reserve on Saturday and the Bombers faced a tricky proposition against the Lions, as it was a game that could well have swung either way.
The visitors brought their ‘A’ game with them, and they put the home side to the sword in the first term as the Lions were held scoreless while Penshurst banged home 5.6 in a dominant display of running football.
The visitors were clean with their disposals either by hand or foot, but the only downside was the poor kicking for goal, which should have seen the Bombers put the game to bed by the end of the first term had they kicked straight.
The Lions finally posted a major in the second term but by then the game was gone, as Penshurst took a 42-point lead into the sheds at the sound of the siren for halftime.
The second half was much closer as Great Western took the game up to Penshurst but five goals from Tim McGregor had the Bombers safely on the winners list as Jayden Watson, Jacob Mibus, Sam Wilson, Cooper Rentsch, Edward Rentsch and Kieran Neeson were rewarded for their efforts by being named as the Bombers’ best.
