East on point in Para bowls pairs

HAMILTON’S Alison East continued to shine on the lawn bowls rinks of the nation, after taking part in a Development Nationals Pathways Emerging Jackaroos tournament in Queensland recently.

East was chosen by Australian bowls Jackaroos manager Ellen Falkner, Karen Murphy and other national selectors to take part in the tournament which was held at Broadbeach Bowls Club from 11-14 July.

There were four teams chosen to participate in the tournament, with five able young bowlers and two para bowlers in each team.

The teams were playing for gold and silver medals, by winning as many games and points as possible, but East was unsuccessful in winning a medal as her team failed to finish first or second.

Of the eight Para bowlers, East finished fourth on the ladder for singles results, but it was in the pairs event that she and her partner, Brett Sellers (from Bribie Island, Qld.) shone.

The twosome played three games with two wins and a draw that allowed them to reach the final which they won comfortably, 27-12.

Alison East has been selected to represent Victoria at the National titles to be staged in Western Australia in October
