THE Hamilton and District Darts Association grand final was played at the Cally Wednesday night between two evenly matched sides, Bushrangers from Condah and Chuckers from the Commercial Hotel.
Chuckers jumped out to an early lead when they won the first two doubles, before a determined Leesa Humphries got bushies on the board with a determined 52 peg in the third.
Chuckers then extended their lead thanks to Brendan Jackway’s ever reliable pegging and a 180 from Troy Snell.
Into the first singles and Snell extended his side’s lead with hard fought pegs of 94 and 40.
Chuckers, needing only one win from the remaining four games, were in the box seat, but Bushies’ Bruce Shepherd had other ideas when he pegged 48 and 36 in his singles, and when Brendan Galloway followed pegging a couple of 32s, the comeback was well under way.
Bushies still needed to win the remaining two games and when captain, Mark Bunting, pegged his singles on eight and 18, it came down to the all-important teams game.
The teams game was a close contest from the ouset and could of gone either way, except for the experience of Humphries who held her nerve to peg 48 and give the Bushrangers a 5-4 victory.
A reminder to members to get along to the AGM on August 9 at the Commercial at 7.30pm - anyone wanting to put a side in for next season is also most welcome.
