PORTLAND Calisthenics Club enjoyed a great deal of success at the annual state championships meet in Bendigo late last week, with some impressive results across the board from the three grades of the competition.
Some of the best results included the intermediate grade (made up of 14-17-year-olds) receiving second for freearm and third for dance arrangement, while sub-juniors (10-12-year-olds) came third in march, while the juniors (7-10-year-olds) came first in march and third in rods.
Club coach Liz Ball said she was very proud of the efforts her team produced across the three days of competition in Bendigo.
“We had two competitions in preparation for state for the older two groups, the younger group only had the one comp to get them going,” Ball said.
“The girls did really well, and they trained really hard… they all worked together,” Ball said.
“Changes were being made to the routines in the lead-up, but the girls did a great job to adapt.”
The girls will now begin preparations for their upcoming concert, with Ball saying it’s an opportunity for the girls to “perform every routine they’ve learnt this year.”
“This is what they’ve been building toward for the whole year.”
The concert will take place Sunday, October 15.
