PLENTY of locals were acknowledged in the 2023 Wannon Sport Awards in Mortlake on Friday.
Wannon MP, Dan Tehan, presented the awards, with plenty of individual and team accolades acknowledged.
Local Individual Achievement – Secondary School winners included rower, Jemima Ross, and hockey player, Tom Templeton, while The Hamilton and Alexandra College Year 10 Coxed Quad Scull team (Georgina Russell, Harriet Nicholls, Jemima Ross, Emma Donovan, Ava Mould, and coach Paul Mould) and the Wannon Zone Pony Club D grade show jumping team (Oliver Homer, Mia Rose, Bethany Dyson and Zoe Addinsall) also got awards.
Individual Achievement – Open awards went to Darren Gordon (indoor bowls), Miriana Perkins (aerial skiing), Katie Riddle (boxing) and Hannah Munro (clay target shooting), while football umpire, Caleb Millard was also acknowledged after umpiring his 400th career game this season.
Port Fairy basketballers, Poppy Myers and Eve Covey, were guest speakers at the event, having represented Vic Country at the Basketball Australia Under-16 National Championships in Perth.
