THE Hamilton Basketball Association season rolled on, with the usual Tuesday night women’s games moved to Thursday, due to Melbourne Cup Day.
Men’s Division 1
Barber Boys White d Minders
WEDNESDAY’S round five games started with Minders taking on Barber Boys White in the early game, with White winning a thrilling contest by two points.
It was a steady start from both teams, creating plenty of opportunities to score with White going into half time leading, 23-20.
Minders bounced back to win the second half but it wasn’t enough to close the gap, going down, 42-44.
Aaron Glare put up 14 points for the winners, while Josh Miller was the main scoring threat for Minders with 14 points of his own.
St Mary’s Orange d St Mary’s Black
THE second game saw a battle between the two Saints teams with Orange coming out on top with a 58-32 victory.
The result was set up with a strong opening half from Orange, as the team combined for 25 points while Black could only manage 11 points before the main break.
The second half was much the same, with Orange continuing to dominate the contest, adding 33 points to the tally, while Black could manage just 21 points to lose by 26 points.
Charlie Alexander was the standout with a game-high 21 points for the winners, while Zac Elliott top-scored for Black with 11 points.
Women’s Division 1
St Mary’s Orange d Tigers
JUST like the previous night, Thursday’s early game proved to be the closest result of the round, with St Mary’s Orange defeating Tigers by two points to cement itself in the top two.
It was Tigers which started the better of the two teams, putting up 15 points in the first half to go into the main break with a two-point scoreboard advantage.
The Saints flipped the game in the second half though, grabbing the lead and holding on to eventually win, 34-32.
Grace Cleaver top-scored for the Saints with 12 points, while Liv Nield put up 10 points for Tigers.
St Mary’s Black d Minders
THE second game saw Black easily hold off Minders to win the round five clash by 27 points.
It was tough going for Minders from the outset, managing just two points for the first half and conceding 18 points at the other end.
Black continued to dominate after half time, ensuring the team was never troubled and added 17 points to go on and win, 35-8.
Charlize Cooper was the only player to reach double figures, putting up 10 points for Black, while Caeleigh Humphries was Minders’ best with five points.
