THE women’s section singles championship was completed at Hamilton on Monday. The following was sent to me by a member of our competitions committee.
In perfect playing conditions, the semi-finals turned out two great games. Chick Trotman and Kim Overall gave a great display of precision bowling with Overall winning, 25-18.
In the other final between Alison East and Carole Dunn, it was anyone’s game at 21-21, but after three hours, Dunn scooped the last four shots to win 25-21.
Overall and Dunn then faced off with the latter grabbing an early lead, before Overall fought back and eventually claim the win, 25-15.
Division one
MIDWEEK pennant was played on Wednesday this round due to the Melbourne Cup.
When there are only five sides in a division, the ladder results can look almost incorrect.
An example being Hamilton at home defeated Memorial and received 15 points.
Memorial received one due to a team draw, after Elma Astbury drew with Pearl Kitt at 21-21, Miriam Tonissen was promoted to skipper and steered the team to a 20-17 win against Robyn McCabe, and Jenny Pole and team returned a 19-13 win against Jan De Zoete.
Overall scores settled at 60-51.
Hamilton was on the bottom of the ladder and stayed there, while Memorial got one point and moved from fourth to third.
Balmoral travelled to Portland and the heat was applied to the side right from the start.
Shirley Rogers ran up 28 to Chick Trotman 13, Kerrie Alexander 23 to Trish Brody 18, and Heather Burgess 15 to Nettie Tinning 14.
Balmoral got no points and Memorial had got one, so the sides swapped rungs, with Portland having taken 16 points to remain second.
Grangeburn started the second round of byes, got almost all points and stayed up top.
Ladder: Grangeburn 75, Portland 66, Memorial 48, Balmoral 47, Hamilton 45.
Division two
THIS division had only one ladder change after round six - between the bottom two sides.
Jude Fasoli with Chris Fleming, Trev Wynniat and Marion Husson of Memorial had a 35 to Portland’s Maree Matters team with 11, while Jan Hamblin 20 to Val Baker 24 saw overall scores settle at 55-35.
The next game had another 20-shot margin, Grangeburn had a visit by Hamilton and the visitors had a second win.
Wendy Kosch 10 to Fay Gebert 25, and Lesley Stewart 16 to Glenda Hawker 21 helping Hamilton get off the bottom rung and sent Grangeburn back there.
Coleraine 46 to Macarthur 41 after Bev Fry 26 to Carol Uebergang 15, and Lesley Beaton 20 to Bev Bourke 26.
Penshurst at home rolled up another 40 but Casterton got 45.
Brenda Uebergang 16 lost to Shirley Williams 27, and Ann Rentsch 24 defeated Teresa Sealey 18.
Ladder: Memorial 66, Casterton 62, Coleraine 61, Grangeburn 35, Macarthur 33, Penshurst 30, Hamilton 29, Portland 20.
Division three
ALL except one ladder position changed, starting with Heywood hosting Dartmoor.
Barb Moore 15 to Sue Tregellis 17, and the Dawson and Jones teams drew on 21 apiece, to finish on 36-38.
Casterton played Portland and the result went to the home side.
Helen Lucas 23 to Marg Millich 18, and Glenys O’Connell 16 to Myra Bourke 19, to see the scoreboard show 39-37.
Macarthur played Hamilton at home and had a big win.
The second highest team score of the season and highest winning margin of all games across all divisions this season.
Libby Marchant with John Bragg and Chris Marchant recorded 43 to Doreen Edwards three, with the other game a draw at 21-21 between Dunn and Glenda Porter.
Grangeburn 35 to Memorial 46 after Kate Coote 13 to Trish Watt 26, and Margie Hadley 22 to Rosie Sturzaka 20.
Ladder: Macarthur 65, Dartmoor 56, Heywood 53, Casterton 52, Portland 48, Memorial 32, Hamilton 27, Grangeburn 3.
