LOCAL soccer star Jasmine Siemon continues to impress at a high level in representative soccer, with the young player looking to represent both Victorian and South Australian soccer leagues into the future.
Siemon, 14, plays for Portland Panthers in the South West Victorian Football Association (SWVFA), while also competing for Gambier Centrals in the Limestone Coast Football Association (LCFA), in both the junior division as well as the senior women’s league.
Having already represented the SWVFA on multiple occasions, Siemon has recently been invited to try out with the LCFA’s representative squad early next year.
“I’ve played in three tournaments so far for the SWVFA, over in Ballarat as well as Mount Gambier so far,” she said.
“I wasn’t originally training with the group, but they wanted me to come along and get involved.
“I’ve been enjoying the training; we have to travel a bit but it’s a lot of fun.”
Siemon said she finds the Limestone Coast competition, which incorporates clubs from Mount Gambier as well as Millicent and Naracoorte, offers a higher standard of play which she uses to test herself.
“I play under-16s and senior women’s, it can be pretty difficult at times but it’s pretty fun,” she said.
Siemon, along with her father Robert, said the opportunities for development, especially for female soccer players, are much more expansive in South Australia.
“My coach said (the rep team) would be a really good opportunity for me so I decided I would try out,” Jasmine said.
“It’s the best kind of standard you can find without having to travel all the way to Geelong to play,” Robert said.
While her short-term goal is to earn selection for the LCFA’s rep side, Siemon said she has big goals in the long-term.
‘I want to play for Australia one day if I can, but if that doesn’t work out, I want to play some kind of professional soccer.”
“There’s also the Singapore Cup next year, which South Australia gets a team together to send over to Singapore where they play some teams there, and I believe that’s a real possibility for her,” Robert said.
