HAMILTON and Grangeburn had the close one, but after all the bowls results came in for Midweek Pennant division one and there were no ladder changes on Tuesday.
Hamilton played top side, Grangeburn, and the ‘tonians had a win and kept the loss, win, loss, win form of all previous games going.
Miriam Tonissen recorded 18 to pairs winner, Chris Rigby, with 17, wihle Jenny Pole got 17 to Leah McCabe the skip of the pairs (see below) 19.
Elma Astbury got the high of 21 to Alison East 15 to round out the scores, finishing at 56-51, closing the gap between Grangeburn and Portland from 26 to 14 on the ladder.
The 14 points Portland received for the bye keeps the team in touch.
Memorial really had a big day with a 36er over Balmoral.
Jan De Zoete obviously had a better day than Saturday along with her team of Peter Fasoli, Dean Beckman and Marion Husson, who joined the 40 plus club with 41 to Trish Brody 10.
Memorial rolled up 88, which was the highest side total so far, easily accounting for Balmoral 52.
For comparison, 40 is the lowest division one score so far.
Pearl Kitt netted 26 to Chick Trotman 19, and Robyn McCabe was 21 to Nettie Tinning’s 23.

Division two
RESULTS were again almost the status quo with the ladder, just a couple of gaps closed.
Casterton set up for a Memorial visit and it was the home side which finished on top.
Berniece Sullivan got 23 written up to Jan Hamblin nine, while Teresa Sealey went one better with 23 to Jude Fasoli 15, ending the clash at 47-24.
Hamilton played Portland and the end totals were 37 to 31.
Glenda Hawker 20 to Val Baker 14, and Fay Gebert played a draw with Maree Matters at 17-17, to move Hamilton up from sixth to fifth.
Coleraine almost doubled Grangeburn’s total with a 51 to 26 win.
Bev Fry 21 to Wendy Kosch 15, and Lesley Beaton more than tripled last week’s total, this time with 30 to Lesley Stewart 11.
Penshurst played at home when Macarthur arrived and Ann Rentsch and Brenda Uebergang, runners-up in the pairs, must have been bowled out.
Macarthur won on both rinks, as Uebergang lost to Bev Bourke, 11 to 14, and Rentsch 16 to Carol Uebergang 22.
Ladder: Memorial 80, Casterton 78, Coleraine 75, Macarthur 59, Hamilton 54, Grangeburn 42, Penshurst 32, Portland 28.
Division three
CASTERTON has gradually climbed the ladder and is now looking over all the other sides.
Helen Lucas with Heather Rees and Peter Taylor got the top score in the division with 38, as the opposing skipper, Sue Tregellis, and team were kept to 10.
Glenis O’Connell got 24 up to Elaine Jones 18 to end the contest at 62-30.
Dartmoor went from top to second and has Macarthur one point behind.
Heywood knocked off Macarthur by four shots, 42 to 38, after Bev Moore 8 was overpowered by Carole Dunn 32, and Leonie Buchanan was having none of that stuff to win, 34-6, against Libby Marchant.
The next match-up was a pretty decisive win to Memorial under the beaut newly renovated post office clock at Hamilton.
Doreen Edwards 13 to Julie McInnis 31, and Bev Langsworth 8 to Trish Watt 29, leading to 21 to 60 totals.
A repetition of the result occurred when Portland got Grangeburn in a corner and won by 40 shots, 56 to 16. Myra Bourke 33 to Suzanne Wilson 7, and Marg Milich 23 to Margie Hadley 9.
Ladder: Casterton 73, Dartmoor 70, Macarthur 69, Heywood 65, Portland 62, Memorial 58, Hamilton 34, Grangeburn 17.
Other news
THE knockout rounds of the women’s pairs championship were played at Hamilton on Monday and the following was supplied by one of the players.
In perfect playing conditions the first pairs of McCabe and Rigby (Grangeburn) and Tinning and Trotman (Balmoral) played off.
The Grangeburn pair got off to a flier and after five ends were leading 5-1 on the card, but the Balmoral girls got a four and after 11 ends they led 9-6.
That fired up the Grangeburn team who won the next three ends, three, three and four, to eventually win the 18-end match, 19-10.
After lunch it was the Penshurst pair of Rentsch and Uebergang waiting for the final, in an even contest for the first 11 ends it was 9-9.
Not sure what happens when Grangeburn hit 12 ends, and Penshurst ended up with the same result of the first game, with McCabe & Rigby winning the day 19-10 yet again.
Congratulations to Grangeburn and all the best in the Region match in February, and many thanks to Glenda Hawker and the Hamilton club for hosting the day, with cuppas and morning tea, and Jack Waldron for acting as umpire.
We have our selected representatives, both women’s and men’s who will play in a Region practice match on Sunday against Geelong.
This is in preparation for the State level Region Sides Championship which is played in January.
