Grangeburn sitting pretty on top

LEAH McCabe and Julie Pollock played in the West Coast Region Women’s team practice match against Geelong at Colac on Sunday. 

Two games were played with both teams winning one game each. 

After these matches, the squad was reduced from 16 down to the final 12 who will play in the Vic Region Finals at Ballarat in January, with both locals among the dozen selected.

McCabe has been in the team on a number of occasions, but this is Pollock’s first selection. 

Congratulations Leah and Julie.

The sectional rounds of the Far Western Men’s Singles will be played at Grangeburn on Sunday. 

Grangeburn will be represented by John Overall, Ruben Ross and Ken Prewett; spectators welcome.

A number of new bowlers are enjoying the challenge of lawn bowls on Monday evenings at our Barefoot Try Bowls program.  

This program will continue for the next two weeks, and everyone is welcome to come along at 6pm.

Our Christmas Party will be held after bowls on December 16.

For catering purposes, names are to be entered on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.

On Monday, several of our bowlers played in the Past Presidents Tournament at City Memorial in Warrnambool.

Irene Box was part of the winning team and Julie Pollock’s team finished equal third. 

Box’s name will now be engraved on the perpetual cup. Well done.

Players are required to not only adjust to the different green surfaces, but also the varying weather conditions during the day. 

On Saturday it rained off and on during the day, but it was a different story on Tuesday with sunny skies and light winds.

Last Friday evening, division one played Penshurst under lights at Grangeburn, due to the Penshurst races being held on Saturday. 

Even though we lost to Penshurst, it was a great night with many spectators watching some great bowling. 

In the other games played as normal on Saturday, division two lost out at Coleraine, division three and division four both played Hamilton Green at home, with a win to division three.

Our A green was full on Tuesday will all three divisions playing at home and all divisions won their games. 

Division one is on top of the ladder on 108 points from Portland on 96.
