Hamilton Bowling Club report

CHRISTMAS has come and gone in a flash, but it hasn’t slowed up our bowling brigade, which has been attending social bowls in droves, anxious to come to grips with the new bowling green.

On Thursday, Jim Brody continued his fine pennant form by skipping Nola Costa (Hervey Bay) and Marg Graham to victory, the only team to win all their games.

Robin Soloman, Ray Fary and Cate Levett were second.

On Saturday it was Peter Graham, Graham Tonissen and Keith Dunn who were victorious, ahead of Jenny Pole Rylan Pech and Rob Henstridge in second.

The dynamic greens committee are at it again, this time carpeting Vince’s shed, adding new furniture and have plans for more improvements to come.

There will be social bowls on the next two Thursdays and Saturday – visitors welcome.

Coming up is the finals of the men’s and women’s singles championships, culminating in Super Sunday on January 7.

The men’s pairs championship is the following weekend.

Happy New Year to bowlers everywhere.

Hamilton Croquet Club report

A SMALL group of die-hard croquet players turned up to play on the last Thursday before Christmas.

The two Ricochet games resulted in two peg outs.

Val Wallis and Margaret Roberts pegged out ahead of Wendy Hobbes, 26 hoops to 21, while Denise Stevens and Carol Anderson came from behind to finish with 26 hoops to Helen Bell and Helen Morrison 25.

Anderson surprised everyone, including herself, by hitting her ball back through the hoop and scoring a peg out.

The two games of Association both had close results.

Lesley Schneider finished with 18 hoops to John Haydon 15, and Glenyce Kuilboer just finished in front of Graeme Wallis, 11 hoops to 10.

Bell, continuing her morning’s good form, combined with Anderson to peg out ahead of Helen and David Morrison, 26 to 20, while the other afternoon Ricochet game between Roberts and Cheryl Storer and Margaret Langford and a visitor to the club, Chris Patience, was timed out with Roberts and Storer leading 25 hoops to 22.

Haydon made 14 hoops to Kuilboer’s 11 in the one game of Association played on Saturday morning.

Helen Morrison was successful against David Morrison and Bell, 26 hoops to 19, in the morning’s Ricochet game.

However, Roberts and Anderson were too strong for Helen Morrison and Storer in the afternoon game, pegging out ahead with 26 hoops to 18.

Social games will continue over the Christmas and new year period, with the season restarting on February 1.

Twilight Come and Try will start on February 7 and will run for four weeks.

Best wishes for the new year for all our members and friends, in particular those who aren’t currently in the best of health.
