Southern 500 swings schedule changes

AFTER Saturday night’s speedway action was cut short due to inclement weather, the Southern 500 Speedway’s committee got to work rescheduling the missed events, not least their famous annual caravan race.

Club secretary Hannah Carter said the club has been able to confirm that the King of the Ring event will now become a part of the SRA sprint cars meet on February 3, while the caravan race is set for February 10 alongside the SSS Streetstock feature.

In a statement released on the club’s Facebook page, it said on the subject of refunds from Saturday’s meet:

“Due to the completion of 6 heats being run and the meeting being started we have decided we can only honour those spectators who have their actual ticket or EFTPOS receipt from purchase.”

The speedway was able to host a successful meet on Friday night, with Carter saying it went according to plan.

“Friday night went really well, our spectator numbers were really good, and it was just an all-around good night,” she said.

“We had a few Portland racers in the winners, with Cody McCabe winning the standard saloons, while Cruz Carlin won the Junior Sedans and Jackson Warrener came second.”

Kaidon Brown took out top place on the speedcar podium.

The club will now look forward to its next upcoming meet, the aforementioned SRA sprintcars on February 3.
