Bunker shots

A FIELD of 78 men and 21 women took to the course on Saturday for a stableford event. 

Bill Tyson had the best score of the day in the men’s section with 38 points, which gave him a win in B grade, ahead of runner-up, Kedar Giles, with 37 and Gary McFarlane on 36.

A grade was a close affair with a three-way countback deciding the placings. 

Eli Potts claimed first spot with Wayne Riddle runner-up and Dale Grambau in third, after they all collected 37 points. 

C grade was another countback between Nevill Osborn and James Barber, each with 35, with Osborn winning the countback; Doug Ward was third with 32.

Balls down the line went to Kim Fielke, Brendan Lang, David Edwards and Rob Vecchiet 35, Ben Kelson, Ben Taylor, Noel Jennings, John Warden, Stephen Giles and Robbie Fishburn all with 34.

Chuck Raymond took out nearest the pin and superpin on the third hole, David Edwards was closest on the sixth, Martin Pitts claimed the 13th and Scott Anderson the 16th.

Second shot on the ninth went to Troy Elliott and second shot on 15th was won by Vecchiet.

It was good to see Cheryl Brinkmann back in form, winning the women’s section with 39 from Val Linke 37.

Balls down the line went to Jenny Edwards 36, Margie Hadley and Lyn O’Brien 35, Gerri Griffin 34, Pam White and Lisa Murphy 33, and Tania Cullinane 31.

Nearest the pin on the third was Jenny Fishburn, Karel Walkenhorst on the sixth, Pam White on the 13th, and Margie Hardley on the 16th.

The closest second shot on the 15th went to Robyn Holcombe.

Wednesday

ANOTHER stableford event had 47 women on course, with Alma Fonda continuing her very good recent form to have the best score of the day with 40 points to win A grade.

Runner-up was Anne Ryan with 35.

B grade was won by Pam White on a countback from Jane Bunge with both on 36, while C grade went to Gaynor Eats with 39, ahead of runner-up Bec Small claimed second on a countback with 36.

Balls down the line went to Gina Kelly 36, Ath Archer 35, Deirdre Simkin, Debbie Milne, Cheryl Brinkmann, Sue Morse and Di Hatherell all 34.

Nearest the pin on sixth was won by Bunge, the 16th went to Kavell Lyons, while the longest putt on the 13th went to Helen Beattie.

Six women contested the nine-hole stableford event with Kath Hartwich had another very good round to return the best score with 18 points.

Tuesday

A NEW group of beginners commenced their first clinic this week with our visiting professional golfer, Craig Davis.

There were 12 players in the group and they all enjoyed their first session in rather hot conditions.

We had 11 players participate in the emerging golfers group and the winner of the nine-hole stableford competition was Hartwich with 14 points.

Upcoming events

HAMILTON Legacy is holding a four-person ambrose event on February 25, entries can be made on one golf or by contacting the golf club.

Friday will be a fun night with the long-awaited golf ball drop, where you can purchase a ball for a chance to win some great prizes.

Today’s event is stableford for men and women.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
