SATURDAY’S stableford event saw a great field of 82 men and 24 women participating.
There was a contingent of players from Naracoorte, who played in what is an annual competition called the Rippon Shield, a 4BBB matchplay event between 10 players from both clubs.
This event has been running since the 1950s and Hamilton had a 3-2 win on their home course to reclaim the shield.
There were some great scores, with Robbie Fishburn having the round of the day with a very handy 42 points.
Fishburn was the B grade winner with Noel Jennings one shot behind on 41, and Ben Taylor taking out third spot on a countback on 40.
Dale Grambau played very consistent golf to take out A grade with 41 from Liam Powell 38, and Naracoorte’s Trevor Smith third on a countback with 37.
C grade went to Peter Jensen on 36 ahead of runner-up, Doug Ward, who claimed the spot on a countback from James Barber after both returned 33.
Balls down the line went to Chris Burford 40, Zac Elliott 38, Peter McMahon, John Raymond, Martin Pitts, and Stuart McAdam 37, Wayne Millard, Nathan Caruana, Michael Schinckel, Michael O’Brien, Ben Kelson and Eli Potts all 36.
Nearest the pin and superpin on the third went to Jim King, the sixth was won by Chris Burford, Mal Groves saluted on the13th, and Chris Crane on the 16th.
The closest second shot on the ninth went to Paul Ryan and the 15th was won by John Hill.
Special mention to Crane, who had an eagle on the 18th hole.
Cheryl Brinkmann was the winner in the women’s field for a second week in a row, sneaking home on a countback from Wendy Wathen after both scored 37 points.
Balls down the line went to Molly O’Brien 35, Rhonda Scullion 34, Jenny Fishburn 33, Jenny Hurse, Michelle Walkley and Margie Hadley 32, along with Enid Smith, Jeanette Carmichael and Tania Cullinane on 31.
Nearest the pin on the third was won by Brinkmann, Bev Tyson on the sixth, while O’Brien took out 13th and 16th holes, along with the closest second shot on the 15th.
Wednesday
A STRONG field of 49 women played in rather hot conditions for the first round of the Spectator Trophy, which was a stableford event.
Ath Archer, who never ceases to amaze us all, had a fabulous round with 41 points, taking out A grade from Debbie Milne on a countback with 39.
B grade was won by Wathen, who also had a great round finishing with 40 to win from Chantal Butcher 37.
Balls down the line went to Kavell Lyons 39, Lyn Satchell 38, Nola Beks and Jenny Fishburn 37, Hadley 36 and Helen Beattie 35.
Nearest the pin on the third hole was won by Jenny Fishburn, the sixth went to Rita Walkom, and the 16th was won by Archer.
The longest putt on the 13th went to Deb Pinniger and Alma Fonda struck the closest second shot on the 15th.
Next Wednesday will be the second round of the Spectator Trophy, which is a par event.
Tuesday
LESSONS with the visiting professional are now in full swing and players are gaining valuable tips, both in the beginners group and the emerging golfers group.
The nine-hole competition, which is held on a Tuesday, was won by Jill Walkenhorst with 17 points from Lesley Toyer.

HAMILTON Legacy is holding a four-person ambrose event tomorrow and entries can be made on OneGolf or by contacting the club.
Today is the first round of the Men’s Club Championships, a stroke event played over four rounds for A and B grade and three rounds for C and D grade.
The women will play stableford today.
