DIVISION one again showed up how even the competition is and when two shots is the difference, that is high level stuff.
All games were played at Heywood on Tuesday and in the division one game, there were two rinks with widespread totals, but the actual scores came out as both having 10 shots difference, one to each side.
Then the third rink had a two-shot win to Memorial via Jan de Zoete with 19 to Chris Rigby 17.
That may sound well done. However, Marion Husson and team were in front but had two ends to go to protect what ended up as the final score.
Reports state that Alison East’s team, which had battled all day against stiff opposition, got going on the last couple of ends, but Husson was able to direct or deliver bowls that protected the final score of 28-8.
June Leahy and team had a similar day to the East team and ended up with six to Leah McCabe 26.
In the end, the recipients of the premiership badges were Marion Husson, Ian Grayson, Robert McIntyre and Robyn McCabe. The second team being Jan de Zoete, Kelvin Wiffen, Peter Fasoli, and Joan Englezos and team three, June Leahy, John Wallis, Rob Liddle and Leanne Evison, with Grangeburn falling short of victory.
Division two
MEMORIAL’S domination continued, winning division two as well.
In the home and away games, the Memorial side had won both games, so the pressure was on Hamilton from the first end.
Memorial got away to a good start and countered most of Hamilton’s manoeuvres, as both Hamilton teams were kept to 17 shots.
Pearl Kitt with 23 to Doreen Edwards 17 and Jude Fasoli 26 to Fay Gebert 17.
So the medal recipients were Jude Fasoli, Trevor Wynniat, Mike Rentoul and Judy Lovell. Pearl Kitt with Gerry Watt, Rob Hamblin and Jan Hamblin.
Division three
AS stated above, Macarthur held the medals up after a win over Portland in division three.
Similar to division two, Macarthur had won both home and away games, but this time the scores were 44 to 35.
Libby Marchant with Chris Marchant and Anne Gilmour rolled up 27 to Marg Milich and team 14.
The team skipped by Carole Dunn with Mary Millard and Maureen Ackerley was defeated by the Myra Bourke team 17 to 21.
At Region level, Memorial’s division one side will represent the club and the Far Western Playing Area on March 12.
Thanks again to clubs for the hosting of finals and now players will be able to concentrate on club tournaments and social bowls.
