Bunker shots

THIS weekend is the final round of the club championships for men and women. 

The men’s open and B grade play Saturday and Sunday, while the men’s C and D grade play their final round on Saturday. 

There are four women still to play their second round on Saturday, including current club champion, Molly O’Brien.

The final round for the Ladies Open, B, C and D grades will be played on Sunday.

Wayne Riddle is leading in the Open/A grade section with 152, four shots clear of Graham Rentsch and Liam Powell 156, with Stuart McAdam in fourth spot on 157, Jason Chandler and John Hill on 159, and Mal Groves one shot further back on 160.

B grade is being headed by Stuart McAdam 157, with Chris Crane six shots off the pace on 163, followed by Chris Eales 167, Martin Pitts 168, Jason McIntosh 169, and Mark O’Brien and Michael Holcombe 170.

C grade has Wayne Millard two shots ahead on 177 from Stephen Giles and Rob Vecchiet, with Guy Sevior and Nathan Caruana each on 180.

D grade is very close with Alan Oakley and Brendan Lang both on 200, followed by Graham Trounce on 202 and Doug Ward on 206.

Saturday

WITH extreme weather conditions, there was a limited morning field open for players to participate in a stableford event, with 31 men and two women taking part.

Rentsch had a day out, scoring one under the card with 41 stableford points, which included an eagle on the fourth hole and three birdies.

He will be hoping to repeat that score again this weekend.

Runner-up and continuing his very good recent form was McAdam with 39 points, one ahead of Jackson Hay in third.

Ball run down went to Stephen Astbury and Warren Butcher 37, Trevor Haley 36, Mark O’Brien and Kedar Giles 35, and Shannon Kearns and Chuck Raymond 34.

Nearest the pin on the third hole was won by Mal Groves, the sixth went to Terry Dunn, and John Raymond was nearest on the 16th.

The closest second shot on ninth was struck by Rentsch, and Mark O’Brien was closest on the 15th.

With only two women playing, Chantal Butcher had the better round to finish with 33.

Wednesday

WEDNESDAY was the second round of the championships, J Forsyth Trophy and Veterans event, with a good field of 52 women participating.

Lisa Murphy had the round of the day, continuing her great form and returning with 66 nett, which will certainly see her handicap drop by a couple of shots.

Murphy was the C grade winner, with Gina Kelly runner-up with 76 nett.

A grade was won by Kerryn Price with 75 nett, one ahead of runner-up, Anne Ryan, while Kavell Lyons won B grade with 72 nett from Chantal Butcher on 76 nett.

Balls down the line went to Cheryl Brinkmann and Rhonda Scullion 77 nett, Margie Hedley, Fran McMeel and Pam Howell all 78 nett.

Nearest the pin on the third went to Howell, Rachel Slade on the sixth, and Debbie Milne on the 16th.

The longest putt on the 13th went to Gillian Jenkins and the closest second shot on the 15th was won by Price.

The championships continued, and the open section currently has Price on 173 and Lyn Satchell 182, with Molly O’Brien still to play her second round.

B grade is very close with Lyons and Brinkmann equal leaders on 192, from Di Raymond 193 and McMeel 200.

Sue Vickery is still to play her second round and is certainly in with a chance.

C grade has Howell leading with 199 from Sue Bensch and Chantal Butcher both on 207.

Murphy is leading D grade, two shots clear of Helen Beattie, with Eileen Robertson four shots further back.

In the J Forsyth Trophy handicap event, the A grade leader is Milne on 155, from Glen Dixon and Jeanette Carmichael both on 159.

B grade has Lyons leading with 152, ahead of Brinkmann 154, Rita Walkom and Raymond 155, McMeel 156 and Margie Hadley 159.

In C grade, Howell is three shots ahead of Chantal Butcher, with Wendy Wathen in third place a further three shots back.

D grade is led by Lisa Murphy, six shots ahead of Eileen Robertson,
