Big medal haul at the state championships

IT was another successful outing for Palace Martial Arts, with seven locals returning from the Australian Taekwondo Victoria State Poomsae Championships in Melbourne with medals last Sunday.

Stephanie Farquharson competed in the black belt individual and board breaking, while Taylor Crane and Will Sweeney both contested the red belt individual before teaming up in the pairs competition, as well as board breaking.

Stewart Dixon contested the yellow belt individual, team and board breaking, Amina Barrera tested herself in the yellow belt individual, while Kora Murray and Fatiha Nuha both contested the yellow belt individual, team and board breaking sections.

Farquharson said she was proud of the way the group performed.

“Everybody did very well, I am really pleased for them,” she said.

“Our expectations are just to go in and do our absolute best.

“It is a really long day when we go down there, we had lots of new people competing, and it is very nerve-wrecking to be up there and be judged by people, so they all did an exceptional job.”

The results also showed the range of skills the group had learnt.

“We got medals in multiple disciplines in the poomsae and the (board) breaking, as well as individual, pairs and teams, so we definitely showed some versatility,” Farquharson said.

“We have got some belt promotions coming up which is really exciting, then we will be looking to see what else pops up with state selection events, and nationals in November as well.”
