MEMBERS are still braving the cold mornings to come and play croquet, although a number of them are starting to make their way up to sunnier climates.

The game of Ricochet between Irene Roberts and Leonie Schurmann was timed out with Edwards leading, 16 hoops to 14.

The other two games saw two peg outs with Margaret Roberts too strong for Trevor Wilson and Janis Patman, 26-22, while Wendy Hobbes and Carol Anderson lost to Helen Morrison and Val Wallis, 26-21.

In Association games, Lesley Schneider just edged out Cicely Fenton, 15-14, while the result of the game between Graeme Wallis and Ron Smith and Brian Mibus and John Haydon remained a mystery, as no one entered the results in the book.

Apparently Mibus left early, then Smith and Wallis caught up with Haydon, before Haydon won by a margin of two - possibly 13 to 15 or 15 to 17.

Only three Ricochet games were played in the afternoon with Tim O’Brien and Lorraine Rye prevailing over Roberts and Denise Stevens, 24 to 17, and the game between Glenda Cadden and Cheryl Storer and Helen Hadden and Margaret Donehue was also timed out with Cadden and Storer finishing just ahead, 23 to 22.

Storer played exceptionally well with one peel and a break of four hoops.

The third Ricochet game was played on the large court, which involved longer hitting on the part of Ricochet players.

Helen Morrison and Brader made 26 hoops to Anderson and Haydon 17.

Saturday morning and the one Ricochet game was played between three players and six balls.

David Morrison (26 hoops) pegged out ahead of Helen Morrison (21 hoops) and Val Wallis (11 hoops), while Haydon and Graeme Wallis finished ahead of Schneider and Glenyce Kuilboer, 11-9, in the one game of Association played.

Only two games of Ricochet were played in the afternoon, one again with three players and six balls.

Anderson pegged out first (26 hoops) with Mary Ann Callinan making 22 hoops, including a break of four hoops and Brader 16 hoops.

The second game saw Helen Morrison and Storer come away with the points, making 26 hoops to Margaret Langford and Stevens 15.

The one Association game was also played between three players with six balls.

Richard Stevenson made 11 hoops, while Haydon and Schneider made four hoops each.

Last week’s report omitted the break of five hoops made by Brader in his game against Hobbes.

At least he thinks it was a break of five, it could possibly have been fewer.

Thank you to all the members who came along to rake up cores on courts one and six on Friday, and the members of St Andrew’s Cricket Club who, who ably assisted by three club members, spread sand on the courts on the Sunday.
