THE Hamilton Sportswoman’s Association is gearing up for a milestone event later in the year, with 2024 marking 50 years since the association was formed.
The local association is the last sole entity in the state with Ballarat’s association running as an entity of the sportsmen’s association.
with four foundation members still involved, Glenyce Kuilboer, Irene McGrath, Marie Cook and Dawn Hayes.
The annual Sportswoman of the Year awards dinner will be held on October 28, which will also include a cutting of a cake to celebrate the milestone.
The first dinner was held on August 2 1974, before another dinner was held in October, before the first awards dinner was held in 1976.
From 1976-1979, Hamilton hosted the Victorian presentation nights, but has focused on the local awards more recently.
The association is hoping to attract some younger members to the association, with 41 members currently – with most aged in their 70s and 80s.
Up to 60 members can be part of the association, with the association hoping for as many former winners as possible to attend this year’s event.
A collection of programs from previous events and photos of past winners will also be on display.
The awards dinner has run every year since 1976 except 2020.
