Hamilton Croquet Club report
THE courts were too wet to play on last Thursday, so members played indoor croquet instead.
After some confusion caused by the different rules - no extra strokes allowed, and all games ended without being timed out – games commenced.
There were no clear winners, as everyone played an uneven number of games.
However, Brian Mibus, Lorraine Rye and John Haydon all played on winning sides in the morning.
Members then stopped for a delicious lunch of pumpkin and carrot soup prepared by Lesley Schneider.
After lunch a large group of members turned up, many not having played indoor croquet before.
Again, there were no clear winners, but John Brader, Helen Bell and Carlyne Mibus all had strong games.
Saturday morning and pools of water could still be seen on the courts.
In the three games played in the morning, Brian Mibus and Ron Smith finished with 14 hoops to Tim O’Brien and John Haydon’s nine hoops, Smith and Glenyce Kuilboer pegged out ahead of Mibus and Haydon, 14 to 12, and Kuilboer and Haydon made 14 hoops to O’Brien and Mibus’ 11 in the third game.
Saturday afternoon’s cold and windy weather restricted the number of members playing to four.
Brader and Haydon prevailed over Margaret Langford and Carol Anderson, 14 to 19, then Brader and Anderson downed Langford and Haydon, 14-8, and in the final game Haydon and Anderson pegged out first with 14 hoops to Langford and Brader’s 12.
Members are reminded that membership fees are now due and can be paid either in person at the club or via direct debit.

Hamilton Bowling Club report
THERE was only one day of bowling this week, with Saturday’s weather stopping even the most avid bowlers.
However, on Thursday 28 bowlers braved the conditions for a game of 2-4-2 with each player in the pairs sharing the role of skipper every second end.
Peter Clapham and Edwin Maclean scored an amazing three wins with 20 shots up to win the day.
In his acceptance speech, Clapham was full of praise for his partner, who is only able to play infrequently, but turned on a great display of bowling.
Peter Moller teamed with Jack Waldron to also have a great day finishing two shots behind the winner.
The numbers at Tuesday indoor bowls is growing steadily with Marg O’Brien, who is no youngster, still bowling brilliantly, as she has done for almost half a century.
Players who with to play pennant this season are urged to enter their names on the board and to add their names to the list of uniform items, which are to be ordered this week.
Keep August 3 free for our final winter Bonanza Day.
