Locals rolling on

THE Far Western Bowls Association Midweek Pennant rolled on this week with round three played on Tuesday.

Hamilton made it back-to-back wins in the Division 1 season, accounting crosstown rival, Grangeburn, with a tight 52-48 win.

Peter Graham held off Leah McCabe by the narrowest of margins, 15-14, while Elma Astbury had an easier time against Ken Prewett, winning 22-16.

Owen Ross picked up Grangeburn’s only rink win with a 18-15 result against Norm Pech.

Memorial maintained its perfect start to the season with a 62-53 win against Balmoral up north.

Cheryl Trotman gave Balmoral a positive start with a 19-18 win against Donald Wallis, while Daniel Brody repeated the effort against Stephen Arthur, 16-15.

Desmond Pitts’ 29-18 win against Neville Trotman was Memorial’s only rink win, but the margin ensured the visitors got overall points.

Division 2

COLERAINE maintains its hold on top spot with a 47-26 win against Memorial at home.

Memorial’s Ian Benbow fell to Lesley Beaton, 14-21, with Coleraine’s Beverley Fry making it two from two with a 26-12 result against Jan Hamblin.

Penshurst travelled to Portland and edged out the home side, 42-40.

Alan Warburton gave the home side a sniff with a 25-16 rink win against Brenda Uebergang, while Ann Rentsch did just enough to ensure Penshurst claimed overall honours, rolling up 26 shots to Andrew Smail’s 15.

Grangeburn Red narrowly got the better of Macarthur, 40-38.

Lesley Stewart finished with 21 to Frank Pye’s 19, while Raelene Roberts and Carol Uebergang split the spoils with a 19-19 result.

Hamilton got the better of Grangeburn Blue, 56-30.

Gerard Lucas rolled up 29 to Wendy Colcott’s 14, while Robyn Donovan completed the dominant win with a 27-16 victory against Peter Moore.

Division 3

MACARTHUR maintained its unbeaten start to the Division 3 season, accounting for Casterton with a 44 shots to 29 victory.

The second-placed side got the win after Carole Dunn rolled up 25 shots to Helen Lucas’ 12, and Anne Gilmour created a 19-17 result against Heather Rees.

Hamilton got the better of Heywood, 34-29.

Cliff Brinkman rolled up 20 to Aneel Chaudhry’s 13, while Barbara Moore earned Heywood two points with a 16-14 result against Pamela White.

Dartmoor had a comfortable win against Grangeburn, 62-26, after Elaine Jones accounted for Adriana Ryan, 32-11, and Suzanne Tregellis rolled up 30 to Kate Coote’s 15.
