Sophomore success

AT the midway point of her American college career, Abbey Sutherland is feeling more at home on the hardwood for the Houston Huskies.

The 2020-21 basketball season presented Sutherland with challenges like no other, but it didn't stop the centre from producing an improved season as a sophomore.

Not only did she have to adjust to new teammates, different rotations and bigger expectations, the Hamilton local and her team were heavily impacted by COVID-19.

The pandemic shook the Huskies, but it didn't stop Sutherland and the team from improving its record this past season and reaching the second round of the conference tournament.

"The year was pretty crazy," Sutherland told The Spectator.

"With COVID, we missed a lot of games and practices due to positive cases.

"But overall, for the interrupted season we had, we did pretty well.
