THE Hamilton Basketball Association season continued this week with comfortable wins recorded in the Women’s Division 1-2 games, including a 37-point win for Tigers against Pure Envy Coasters on Tuesday night.
It was a dominant performance from the outset from Tigers, as the even contribution from every player proved important with only one player from the eight-woman squad unable to hit the scoreboard.
Karoraina Karatau-Keightley topped the winners’ scoring with 11 points, while Avreet Kaur and Ella Sevior each contributed 10.
Emma Khawli continued her strong start to the year, top-scoring with eight points for the Coasters in the 14-51 loss.
The win keeps Tigers in second spot on the ladder, while Pure Envy Coasters remain in seventh.
Crocodiles d. Monivae
IN the early game, it was Crocodiles which grabbed the points with a 28-20 victory against Monivae.
It was a steady start from both teams, before Crocodiles grabbed the momentum to eventually run away with an eight-point win.
Hayley Knight shot truly from long range, while Chloe Uebergang proved to be a scoring threat throughout the contest.
Maddison Rhook put up eight points for Monivae, but it wasn’t enough to get her team over the line at the final buzzer.
Uebergang finished with eight points for the winners, while Masey Knight and Tayla Walker each contributed six points in the win.
Despite the win, Crocodiles remain in sixth place, while Monivae finishes round six in fourth position.
St Mary’s d. Sportscene Minders
THE late game was the closest result of the round with the Saints edging out Sportscene Minders by five points.
The game was up for grabs for both teams at different times before St Mary’s stepped up and did what was needed, holding off Minders to win, 27-22.
Clare Crawford shot a game-high 11 points to top the Saints’ scoring, while Jedah Huf’s nine points was Minders’ standout, followed by eight points from Paige Kissel.
The win keeps the Saints in top spot on the ladder, a game clear of second place, while Minders finish the round in third position.
Men
Barber Boys d. Tigers
BARBER Boys and Tigers opened the round six fixture in the early game with Tigers unable to match the output from Barber Boys, losing by 13 points.
It was a stunning effort from Nate Krause that proved pivotal to the result, as he put up 25 points, 18 of which were from long range, to top the team’s efforts in the 42-29 victory.
Angus Hayden-Simpson was Tigers’ best with 12 points, while Sam Brewer put up seven points in support in what was a tough game for the team.
The loss keeps Tigers in seventh position, while Barber Boys finishes the round in fourth spot.
Minders Blue d. St Mary’s Black
NEXT on the schedule was Minders Blue and St Mary’s Black with Blue claiming victory in a one-sided match-up.
Blue dominated the match from the outset and held a comfortable margin for much of the game, eventually going on to record a 54-32 victory.
Archie Porter did his best to keep Black in the contest, putting up 12 points, while Bailey Baker added 10, but the team fell short despite their efforts.
Aaron Glare topped Blue’s scoring with 19 points, while Tom McGinley chipped in with 12 and Harry McGinley added 10.
The win helps Blue remain undefeated, sitting in top spot by percentage, while St Mary’s Black is in fifth.
Minders White d. Monivae Warriors
IT was the biggest margin of the round, as Minders White dominated its round six contest to beat the Warriors by 36 points.
Monivae struggled to create scoring chances often enough, as White made its move early in the contest and controlled the momentum until the final buzzer, winning 55-19.
Josh Miller topped an impressive list of contributors for the winners, putting up 15 points including nine from long range, while Angus Noske and Tyler Staude hit 10 points each for Minders White.
Hamish Cook was the Warriors’ leading scorer with six points in a tough game for the team.
The loss keeps Monivae well out of reach of the top four, sitting in sixth position, while Minders White is in third spot.
St Mary’s Orange d. College Barking Owls
THE round concluded with St Mary’s Orange taking on College Barking Owls with Orange holding off the Barking Owls to win comfortably, 67-48.
It was an impressive performance from the St Mary’s team, with four players hitting double figures, forcing the College defence to remain tight on each of their opponents.
Jacob Hill and Deacon White each put up 16 points for Orange, while Ben Marti offered good support with 13.
Edward Koch was the Barking Owls’ standout, finishing the game with 20 points, while Nicholas Hoskyns was the next best with nine.
Orange finished the round in second position, while College’s tough season continues, sitting bottom of the ladder without a win.
