Ladder leaders triumph over Minders Blue

SPORTSCENE Minders cruised to another easy win, defeating Minders Blue by 33 ponts in Women’s Division 1-2 action on Tuesday night.

Dynamic duo for the undefeated side, Tahlia Ross (27 points) and Paige Kissel (20 points), tore the game apart, taking away any chance their opponents had of winning.

Ross displayed her exceptional shooting ability, dropping five three-pointers for the night, while Kissel was influential on quick breaks and getting in the paint.

Maddison Cotten scored 17 points in the losing side, which included three big shots from beyond the arc, but needed a greater contribution from her teammates, as her side lost 63-30.

The reigning premiers remain undefeated after five games, while Minders Blue is at the opposite end of the table, yet to win a game.

St Mary’s d. St Mary’s Black

IN a battle for bragging rights, both Saints teams matched up for a round five clash and the game provided plenty of excitement for onlookers, as the teams were separated by just four points at the final buzzer with St Mary’s holding on to win, 33-29.

Kate Pickford had a breakout game for the winning side, scoring 11 points, while the ever-reliable Leesa Iredell played her part and added another 10 points to her season tally.

On the other hand, St Mary’s Black’s Saskia Gould (11 points) has had a great year and despite the team not putting as many wins on the board as she would’ve liked, she has been ultra-consistent with double-figure contributions in every game.

The ladder is extremely close with St Mary’s now sitting in second place, just three points above St Mary’s Black, which is down in fifth position.

Monivae Dolphins d. Tigers by forfeit

Division 1 Men

St Mary’s Black d. Tigers

THE Saints recorded a morale-boosting win against Tigers in the Division 1 Men’s competition, getting over the line by just two points to claim their first win of the Autumn season, 35-33, on Wednesday night.

It was the battle of the two winless teams and stakes were high, as both sides were determined to put an end to their three-game losing streaks.

One team had to come out on top and Jack Jennings helped drag St Mary’s Black over the line to claim victory.

Jennings led all scorers on the court with 12 points, while the rest of his teammates steadily chipped in to get them to a winning score.

Zac Elliott managed to score eight points at the other end and with support from Sam Brewer and Austin Mayfield (seven points each), Tigers were gallant in defeat.

Barber Boys d. St Mary’s Orange

IN a top-of-the-table clash, it was Barber Boys who came out on top of a formidable St Mary’s team by 16 points, 66-50, in a closer game than the scoreboard reflected.

The sides matched up well across the court and the Saints made an impact early, giving Charlie Alexander the task of nullifying Nate Krause’s impact and he did just that, limiting him to 13 points (his lowest for the season) while scoring 10 points himself.

Scoring big at the other end for St Mary’s Orange was duo, Jacob Hill (17 points) and Deacon White (15 points), who had important individual games.

Barber Boys showed they have players all over the court who can stand up and fill the scoring void, and it was Jakob Greaves’ turn on Wednesday night, as the big man put up 18 points.

An even spread of scorers was the difference, as Joel Le Roy and Shai Bunworth scored double figures to help the top side go 5-0 for the season.

Minders Blue d. Monivae Warriors

MINDERS Blue jumped into the top four after defeating Monivae Warriors, 35-25, off the back of a consistent team performance.

Minders has now won three games this season and is looking to close the gap to some of the top teams in the competition as the season progresses.

It was an even contest, as all 14 players who took part in the game scored at some point, while Minders’ Aaron Glare was the only player on the court to score double figures, finishing with 10 points.

Isaiah Mulley (eight points) led the scoring for the Warriors, hurting the opposition with a couple of three-pointers but it wasn’t enough to get his team in front on the scoreboard when it mattered most.

Monivae Warriors sit just outside the finals race, but will look to change that when it meets St Mary’s Black next week.
