HAMILTON Basketball Association will be well represented with six locals selected for the Basketball Victoria Golden Nugget Camp later this month.
Charlie Baker, Holly Rook and Saskia Gould were all selected as top-agers, while Angus Knight, Maddox Ryan and Charlize Cooper were chosed as bottom-aged participants.
BV south west administrator, Kira Ryan said it was another strong showing from the Hamilton association during the selection process.
“This is the first year we have had more girls than boys selected,” she said.
“We normally have more male numbers, so it looks good for our girls program.
“The quality this year was really high, so for us to get six through was awesome and speaks volumes for how good our program is.”
Only 20 juniors were selected for the Under-14 camp from the south-west, which encompasses Warrnambool, Portland, Hamilton and Horsham.
Baker and Rook will return as top agers, while the other four are bottom-age selections.
“There are less numbers who are picked in the top age, so for those two to get through for the second year is amazing and they have definitely grown as players since being in the program,” Ryan said.
Ryan is one of four camp debutantes and said she was excited to get to Ballarat after going through the selection.
“I was definitely very nervous but I had a bit of confidence,” she said.
“I will just to put in my best effort and keep trying if I stuff up.”
Rook and Baker are looking ahead and said they expect the second year to be a bit easier to adapt to.
“It makes it easier knowing what it is all like, not going in blind,” Rook said.
“Just want to keep improving and get better than last year.”
“Last year did give me a bit more confidence,” Baker said.
“Just want to work on my driving to the basket a bit more.”
The boys camp is set for September 21 and the girls on September 22.
