THE Hamilton Basketball Association crowned its 2022 Autumn season MVP winners with Minders players collecting the prize in the top men’s and women’s division.
Josh Miller collected the Division 1 Men’s honour, as the Minders White player polled 30 votes to win by four ahead of runner-up, St Mary’s Orange’s Jacob Hill.
The 16-year-old said his game improved a lot during the season.
“I was pretty happy with my season,” he said.
“I was just hoping to make it to the grand final.”
There is still more improvement left though, ahead of the new season which gets underway next month.
“I just want to improve my defence and being more physical,” he said.
“Getting more three-pointers up as well.”
Tahlia Ross completed the Minders double, winning the Division 1 Women’s MVP with 20 votes, four clear of Tigers’ Reet Kaur in second.
The 18-year-old
“I wasn’t expecting this, I don’t want to expect something and not get it, so I have just thought to play, enjoy it and if it happens, it happens,” she said.
“I really stepped up this season, it is probably the best I have ever played.
“Still learning to drive into the key to draw that contact, but best season I have had.”
Ross’ shooting improved dramatically this season, but the Minders player said there were still things she wanted to work on going into the next season.
“I was trying to focus on driving in, but because I found my range around the ring, that is where I was comfortable,” Ross said.
“So next year I will try and drive more, I want to push myself out of my comfort zone and get that bit more experience.”
