BARBER Boys finished round eight in top spot on the Hamilton Basketball Association Men’s Division 1 ladder following their 14-point win against St Mary’s Orange on Wednesday night.
Nate Krause led from the front, as the reigning premiers took control of the game and never looked back.
Orange did its best to combat the scoreboard damage, but Krause’s 17 points alongside Jakob Greaves’ 12 points ensured their team went on to claim a 48-34 victory.
Ethan Knight was St Mary’s Orange’s top-scorer, finishing the round eight clash with 16 points, the only double-digit haul for the team.
St Mary’s Black d. Minders Blue
IT was a much tighter contest in the later game, with St Mary’s Black winning by just five points against Minders Blue.
It was a see-sawing battle with both teams gaining momentum at different times.
The shots from the perimeter proved to be the difference though, with Black draining five maximums to Blue’s three.
Aaron Glare top-scored for Minders with 12 points, but it was mirrored by Jack Jennings’ haul for Black, as the latter guided his team to a 34-29 victory.
The win keeps Black in fourth spot, four points clear of fifth-placed Minders Blue.
Women’s Division 1-2
Sportscene Minders d. Barber Babes
THE early game saw Sportscene Minders and Barber Babes face-off with Minders grabbing the chocolates with a three-point win.
It was the one-two punch of Zoe Hill and Tahlia Ross who led the way for Minders, putting up 11 and 10 points respectively to see Minders clear on the scoreboard and eventually claim a 27-24 victory.
Isabelle Johnson played a lone hand for Barber Babes, finishing the round eight clash with 11 points in a strong individual performance.
The win sees Minders retain second spot, while Barber Babes finish the round in fourth position.
St Mary’s d. Tigers
THE Saints have kept on their winning ways, accounting for Tigers by 13 points, to retain top spot.
St Mary’s grabbed the lead and from there the result never looked in doubt, as Clare Crawford impressed once again with a 13-point haul, while Avreet Kaur’s 11 points was also important for the Saints.
Ayla Ewing was Tigers’ best, finishing with six points in the 17-30 loss.
Tigers sit third, despite the loss.
St Mary’s Black d. St Mary’s White
THE late game proved to be the closest game of the round, as Black held on to defeat club rival, White, by two points.
Saskia Gould (13 points) and Maddox Ryan (10 points) offered plenty for the winners, as Black scored 33 points to White’s 31.
Stella Grinham’s nine-point haul was White’s standout performance, with the team ending the round in bottom spot after the loss.
Black finished the round in fifth position, two points outside the top four.
