THE Hamilton Basketball Association round six action saw the Women’s Division 1 games keep all players interested right up until the final buzzer, with a combined margin of five points across both games, while both Men’s Division 1 games weren’t as closely contested.
Women’s Division 1
Tigers d St Mary’s Black
IT was a game of two halves, as Tigers burst out of the blocks and dominated proceedings against St Mary’s Black in the first half of the early game on Tuesday night.
Black struggled to match the efforts of Tigers in the opening period, going into half time trailing, 11-23.
After time to plot a comeback, as Black gained control of the contest and responded with an impressive rally in the second half.
Tigers had to reset and handle the extra pressure the Saints players applied, with Black eventually falling three points short at the final buzzer, 31-34.
Lily Raymond top-scored for Black with 12 points, while 11 points from Maddison Cotten ensured Tigers notched up a second win of the season.
St Mary’s Orange d Minders
THE opening half of the late game was a grind for both teams, as St Mary’s Orange and Minders struggled to make an impact in offence with a combined 17 points scored in the first period.
Despite the defensive nature of the game and missed shots at both ends, it was Minders who went into the break with the narrowest of leads, 9-8, but knew more work had to be done to claim the win.
Orange came out after half time and started to get more possession and added 16 points to the tally to grab the lead late in the half and go on to win, 24-22.
Caeleigh Humphries shot a team-high nine points for Minders, while Grace Cleaver also had an influence, top-scoring for Orange with 10 points.
Men’s Division 1
Barber Boys White d St Mary’s Black
BARBER Boys White opened up the round against St Mary’s Black in the early game and both teams started off the contest positively, making the most of scoring opportunities.
It was a fast-paced game and with both teams hitting their shots it resulted in 46 points being scored in the first half, with White taking a two-point advantage into the main break.
The second half saw White move well clear of its opponents, as Black could only manage 13 points for the period, while White put up 28 to go on and record a 52-35 victory.
Morgan Newns put up 14 points to top score for the winners, while Joshua Gardner and Zac Elliott both added nine points each at the other end for Black.
St Mary’s Orange d Barber Boys Black
THE late game was an even bigger margin, as St Mary’s Orange widened the gap to third on the ladder with a 20-point win against Barber Boys Black.
A dominant first half set up the win, with Orange scoring 22-8 in the first half to grab the momentum, and with no run of momentum for Black, Orange continued on its way to record a comfortable 49-29 win.
