Strong showing at Mt Gambier

IT was a strong day for Hamilton’s two youngest teams at the Mount Gambier junior basketball tournament last weekend.

Under-12 Boys

ANOTHER successful weekend for the young Hurricanes with an undefeated tournament in Mt Gambier.

First round we come up against Eastern Hills and won by two points, then defeated Bordertown 48-12.

A closer game in round three against the host, Mt Gambier, made the Hurricanes fight, winning by four points, before taking on Port Fairy and winning, 49-35.

A great grand final played by all the boys who pushed through after a big, fun filled weekend of basketball and friendship to snag the win, 37-30.

Under-12 Girls

HAMILTON started the weekend with a very physical game against Murray Bridge, eventually winning 26-15.

The Hurricanes followed it up with a 29-11 win against Millicent, and a 36-9 victory against Mt Gambier.

It was a rematch against the Mount’s team in a semi-final, maintaining the win streak with a 36-9 result, before defeating Millicent in the decider, 28-12.

Under-16A Boys

THE Hurricanes opened their campaign against Mt Gambier, winning 58-32, in a game that every Hurricanes player hit the scoresheet.

The second game was against Portland with Hamilton winning, 48-22.

Naracoorte was next and the locals finished strong to claim a 47-32 victory, progressing through to the grand final against the Warrnambool development team.

Warrnambool got the early edge with their height under the basket causing some early concerns for the Hurricanes.

That continued, despite a fightback from the ‘canes, going down 37-42 at the final buzzer.

Under-16A Girls

CONTINUING on from their successful weekend in Horsham, the Under-16 girls went through the rounds  undefeated with three wins against Mt Gambier, Bordertown and Naracoorte.

With over 20-point margins in each contest, the team was chock full of confidence ahead of finals.

First up Sunday morning the team played Warrnambool, winning to claim a semi-final spot against Millicent.

It was another determined team effort that gave us the win to play Mt Gambier in the grand final.

Mt Gambier fought really hard keeping our girls on their toes but in the end wasn’t enough, Hurricanes winning 32-24.

Under-14A Boys

HAMILTON’S first game was a tough win against Forrestville, who they would play again in the grand final.

Forrestville was a well-rounded team from the inner suburbs of Adelaide.

They were tall and athletic nevertheless, were challenged by a resilient Hamilton team, which took an early eight-point lead and stuck it out to eventually beat the South Australian side by two points.

Hamilton went on to have convincing wins against the remainder of their pool, notching up two 20+ point wins against Mount Gambier and Murray Bridge.

The boys continued on the next day in the finals, beating Millicent in the quarter-final with another convincing win, before facing Murray Bridge in the semi-final and winning through to the decider.

The final was a replay of the opening round and Forrestville came out with a score to settle, eventually going down to the South Australians.

Under-14B Boys

THE locals started the weekend with a 26-26 draw against Border Sports, before a 57-20 win against Portland and a loss to Port Fairy, 30-42.

Day two started with a quarter-final win against Warrnambool, 44-24, followed by a semi-final facing the undefeated Naracoorte.
