JOSH Miller is set for the big time, named in Warrnambool’s Big V side for tomorrow’s round one clash.
The 17-year-old is coming off a strong Country Basketball League (CBL) season where he finished in the top six for points scored, despite Hamilton winning just one game, with the shooting guard/point guard named in the Seahawks side for the clash against Warrandyte.
Miller said it was another important step in his basketball development.
“This is the biggest step of my career to date,” he said.
“I tried out last year and I made the development team and trained for most of the season, I got a lot out of that but this season I made the team.
“I am continuing to put the work in during my own time, Big V training has been good and I have been getting a lot out of it.
“Hustling on defence and intensity is what is going to keep me in the side.”
Seahawks coach, Shane Smith said he was excited to see what Miller could offer the team after being around the group for the past 18 months or so.
“He has done a bit of a traineeship, he is a learner of the game, he loves it and shows it on the court,” he said.
“He uses his speed, great shooting ability and these are the things we are really after from him during games.”
After missing out on the team last year, Miller continued to work hard in the HBA and CBL, with Smith noticing differences in his game this year.
“He has certainly come back more well-rounded this year, he has learnt off some great people around him,” Smith said.
“Our style of game is based around our defence and our speed, that will be important and he adds to that.
“He showed (his shooting skills) in our practice game, he lit it up really well and got on a roll with shooting threes, but it is not the only thing he has to do, he knows under pressure he has to make that extra pass.
“We are excited he is part of the group and he gets his opportunity this weekend.”
