Lewis, White claim season MVP's

THE Hamilton Basketball Association summer 2023-24 season MVPs have been announced with Rhianne Lewis and Deacon White collecting the Women’s Division 1 and Men’s Division 1 honours.

Lewis led the Tigers to the Women’s Division 1 title and polled 22 votes to hold out St Mary’s Orange’s Grace Cleaver and Leesa Iredell, St Mary’s Black’s Charlize Cooper and Minders’ Caeleigh Humphries to win the award.

Lewis credited her teammates for their efforts during the season, which contributed to her output.

“It is always nice, these young girls actually make me look good, so the credit goes to all them,” she said.

“I am getting a bit older now, I do play it for fun and it just worked out this way.

“Many moons ago (I won my last one), 100 per cent it means as much, with a good bunch of girls and enjoying my season so much, it means more than I thought it would.

“It is nicer to be able to give back to the girls and it is nice that we all get something to celebrate at the end of the day.”

White polled 16 votes to win the Men’s Division 1 honour ahead of St Mary;’s Orange’s Charlie Alexander, Barber Boys White’s Aaron Glare and Nathan Hardingham, Minders’ Angus Hayden-Simpson, and St Mary’s Black’s Jack Roberts.

White said the support from his team was instrumental in his personal success.

“It was good to have everyone around me and support me and drive me to help me step up and win this award,” he said.

“I think playing with that focus, trying to stay focused on the game is important.

“It is just about playing my game and move that ball around and the shots just open up, and just to have the confidence to take those shots.”
