THE Hamilton Basketball Association season continued this week with the Women’s Division 1-2 split up into separate divisions as of this week, with both men’s and women’s competitions now having a division one competition.
Women’s Division 1
Tigers d St Mary’s White
TUESDAY’S games started with Tigers facing off against St Mary’s White, with Tigers retaining its unbeaten start to the season with a 32-23 win.
The first half was a tight contest, with both teams creating plenty of scoring opportunities, but it was Tigers which edged clear to go into the main break with a three-point advantage, 16-13.
White tried to bounce back, with seven of the first 10 points of the second half, and when Stevie Pevitt-Holmes hit a three-pointer, it was White’s first lead since four minutes into the game.
Tigers responded and got on a run, eventually closing out the game to win by nine points.
Rhianne Lewis and Tahlia Ross each put up 10 points for the winners, while Kimberley Morrison finished with nine points for St Mary’s White.
St Mary’s Black d St Mary’s Orange
THE late game saw Black get the better of Orange in the St Mary’s battle, winning by five points.
It was a tight opening half, with both teams playing defensive basketball, as Black went into the main break with a 13-11 lead.
Scoring increased in the second half, with both teams finding more space in transition, but it was Black which led the scoring once again, eventually winning, 33-28.
Ruby Cleaver led the scoring for Black, while Emily Iredell put up 12 points for Orange.
Men’s Division 1
St Mary’s Orange d St Mary’s Black
IT was a Saintly battle in the early game on Wednesday, with St Mary’s Orange defeating St Mary’s Black by 12 points.
Orange got off to a hot start, putting up 36 points in the first half, as Charlie Field and Archie Porter helped their team go into half time with a 15-point advantage.
The second half was a more defensive period, with a combined 39 points scored by both teams, as Orange won the round four clash, 54-42.
Field finished with 19 points for the winners, while Jack Roberts topped Black’s scoring list with 12 points.
Barber Boys d Minders
THE later game provided just as much entertainment, with another high-scoring encounter, with Barber Boys winning, 60-46.
Six points separated the two teams at half time, with Minders unable to reel in the deficit by the final whistle.
Shai Bunworth shot a game-high 15 points for the winners, while Josh Miller led the way for Minders with 13 points.
