Tigers fall to St Marys Black

THE Hamilton Basketball Association round five games were played this week, meaning teams are a third of the way through the season.

Women’s Division 1

St Mary’s Black d Tigers

ST Mary’s Black inflicted Tigers’ first loss of the season, claiming a 10-point in Tuesday’s early game.

It was a high-scoring first half, with both teams putting together strong attacking basketball, with Black edging clear to take an eight-point lead into the main break, 42-34.

The scoring slowed significantly in the second half, with just a combined 16 points scored, as Black went on to win, 51-41.

Charlize Cooper led the way for St Mary’s Black, putting up a game high 22 points, while Tahlia Ross was Tigers’ best with 14 points.

St Mary’s Orange d St Mary’s White

IT was Orange which held on against White in a St Mary’s battle, winning by 25 points in a blow out in Tuesday’s late game.

Orange dominated from the outset, restricting White to just six points in the first half, while scoring 17 at the other end to go into the main break with a comfortable lead.

The even spread of contributors was too much for White to contain, with Orange going on to record a 39-14 victory.

Kate Pickford led the way for the winners with nine points, while Zoe Vankalken-Flack put up five points for St Mary’s White.

Men’s Division 1

GT Storm d Barber Boys

GT Storm has moved up into second spot on the ladder with a 22-point win against Barber Boys in Wednesday night’s early game.

Storm burst out of the blocks early, dominating possession and putting up 18 first-half points to Barber Boys’ seven, to go into the main break with a comfortable lead.

Barber Boys was unable to reel in the deficit in the second half, eventually going down, 24-46.

Wynn Rentsch, Lachlan Rentsch and Josh Rentsch all finished with 11 points for the winners, while Shai Bunworth was Barber Boys’ best with eight points.

St Mary’s Orange d Minders

ST Mary’s Orange maintained its unbeaten start to the season, accounting for Minders by 14 points.

Just four points separated the two teams at half time, before Orange increased its output after the main break and went on to record a 47-33 victory.

Josh Miller put up a game high 16 points for Minders, while Josh Hallam led the way for the winners with 14 points.
