JUST one Hamilton Basketball Association Division 1 game finished with a margin of less than 10 points, in round six action this week.
Men’s Division 1
St Mary’s Orange d GT Storm
GT Storm stuck with St Mary’s Orange for the first half, but struggled to continue that output, with Orange winning by 10 points in Wednesday night’s late game.
Both teams competed well in the opening period, with Orange putting up 18 points to Storm’s 16, with both teams still in contention at the main break.
The second half was when Orange got clear on the scoreboard, scoring 26 points to win, 44-34.
Josh Hallam (11 points) and Charlie Baker (10 points) did the damage for the winners, while Josh Rentsch was GT Storm’s best with 10 points.
Minders d St Mary’s Black
ST Mary’s Black struggled to match Minders in the early game, which provided more opportunities to score, as Minders won, 51-41.
It was Black which got out to an early lead, thanks to back-to-back threes from Zac Elliott and Riley Iredell to hold a 9-4 advantage, before Minders worked its way back into the contest.
By half time, Minders had grabbed the lead, 25-20, with Black unable to grab the momentum back in the second half, putting up 21 points to 26, as Minders went on to win by 10 points.
Josh Miller topped Minders’ scoring with 17 points, while Craig Jackson (14 points) and Iredell (13 points) impressed for St Mary’s Black.
Women’s Division 1
St Mary’s Orange d Tigers
TIGERS has dropped down from top spot after falling to St Mary’s Orange by a single point in Tuesday night’s early game.
It was a tight contest from the outset, with both defensive structures holding firm, with just two points separating the two teams at the main break, in Orange’s favour.
Tigers fought back in the second half, but was unable to close the deficit, eventually going down, 24-25.
Stella Grinham impressed for St Mary’s Orange with 11 points, while Bridget Mailes put up 10 points for Tigers.
St Mary’s Black d St Mary’s White
IT was a battle of the Saints in the late game, with Black getting the better of White by 18 points.
It was a tighter contest in the first half, with White’s defence keeping Black to 17 points, to go into half time trailing by five points.
The second half saw Black push further clear, putting up 23 points to win, 40-22.
Danielle Tooley put up 16 points for White, while Charlize Cooper (11 points) and Holly Rook (10 points) led the way for Black.
