Tied game highlights round 12 contests

THE Hamilton Basketball Association season round 12 games were played this week, highlighted by a draw between the top and bottom sides on Tuesday night.

Women’s Division 1

St Mary’s Black dw St Mary’s White

LADDER leader, St Mary’s Black, would have gone into the clash against bottom-placed St Mary’s White on Tuesday night, but it was a much tougher task than expected, with the teams splitting the points at the final buzzer.

White kept Black within reach in the opening minutes, with the margin kept to within three points, until Charlize Cooper found space and extended the lead out to 9-4, but White bounced back soon after.

Elise Thurman hit a three-pointer to see Black move to a 12-6 lead, but scores were locked at 12-12 just a couple of minutes later, thanks to Zoe Vankalken-Flack.

Danielle Tooley gave White the lead and before long, they had scored 17 unanswered points to lead, 23-12.

With half time closing in, Black responded, but went into half time trailing, 22-27.

The second half saw Black bounce back through Cooper and Saskia Gould, helping the team to a five-point advantage late in the half before White rallied to tie the scores up at 46-46 at full time.

Cooper finished with 17 points for Black, while Vankalken-Flack put up 26 points for White.

St Mary’s Orange d Tigers

IT was a week off for Orange, with Tigers forfeiting the round 12 clash.

Men’s Division 1

St Mary’s Orange d Barber Boys

THE reigning premiers took on Barber Boys and got the better of the fourth-placed side, winning 47-41 in the early game on Wednesday night.

St Mary’s Orange burst out of the blocks, as Jacob Hill put up the first seven points of the game, before Barber Boys grabbed the momentum, as Shai Bunworth and Joel Le Roy spread the scoring load, giving the team a 26-20 lead at half time.

Orange got rolling in the second half, with Deacon White and Jack Jennings combining for the first eight points.

The scoreboard tightened up before Orange piled on seven consecutive points to eventually win, 47-41.

Hill put up a game-high 19 points for the winners, while Le Roy finished with 15 points for Barber Boys.

GT Storm d St Mary’s Black

THIRD-PLACED GT Storm took on bottom-placed St Mary’s Black and collected a 12-point win in the late game.

A dominant first half set up the win, as Storm got out to an early 7-0 lead, before Craig Jackson finally got Black on the scoreboard.

Black struggled to match Storm on the court, trailing 7-23 with three minutes to play, going into half time with a 15-point deficit.

Storm had a handy buffer going into the second half, but Black responded, and made its opponents earn victory.

Black put up 26 points for the half, but it wasn’t enough, with Storm adding 23 at the other end to win, 48-36.

Josh Rentsch (16 points) and Wynn Rentsch (14 points) topped the scoring for GT Storm, while Riley Iredell (11 points) was the only St Mary’s Black player to hit double figures.
