Saints dominate to book grand final spots

THE Hamilton Basketball Association finals got underway this week, with qualifying and elimination finals played on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Men’s Division 1

DEACON White helped St Mary’s Orange go straight through to the grand final, putting up 20 points to see Orange edge out Minders by a single point, 42-41, on Wednesday.

Josh Miller’s 16 points wasn’t enough for Minders, with Orange overcoming a four-point half time deficit to win the qualifying final.

Barber Boys ended GT Storm’s campaign, winning 41-34 in the elimination final.

Aaron Glare finished with 15 points for the winners, while Cody Overton was GT Storm’s best with 12 points.

Women’s Division 1

ST Mary’s Black progressed through to the season decider with a 54-23 victory against Tigers in the qualifying final on Tuesday.

A 34-11 first half set up the win, as Saskia Gould put up 15 points for Black, while Rhianne Lewis led the way for Tigers with eight points.

Tigers remain in contention and will play St Mary’s Orange next week after Orange won the elimination final against St Mary’s White, 42-24.

Grace Cleaver scored 12 points for the winners, while Zoe Vankalken-Flack was White’s best, putting up eight points in the loss.

The preliminary finals will be played next Tuesday night, with grand finals scheduled for September 18.
