A DOMINANT display from St Mary’s Black saw the reigning premiers account for St Mary’s Orange in a Women’s Division 1 grand final rematch, headlining the round two results on Tuesday.
Black burst out to a 6-0 lead to open the contest, before Skye Kissel got Orange on the board.
The reigning premiers’ dominance continued with a further 14 unanswered points to lead, 20-2 with half time closing in.
By the main break, the lead sat at 19 points, with Orange unable to reel in the 26-7 scoreline, as Black continued its domination on in the second half, going on to record a 46-12 victory.
Lily Raymond and Grace Cleaver both put up 10 points for the winners, while Jenna Loats was Orange’s best with four points.
Minders d Tigers
THE early game was a much closer encounter, with Minders holding on to defeat Tigers by four points.
Paige Kissel was the only Tigers player to hit the scoreboard in the first seven minutes, as Minders burst out to a 10-2 lead and grab the early ascendency.
Tigers rallied late in the first half to close the scoreboard deficit and go into the main break trailing by just one point, 16-17.
The second half saw both teams have periods of momentum, but it was Minders which hung on to win, 33-29.
Caeleigh Humphries proved to be pivotal to Minders’ win, putting up 12 points, while Kissel finished with 12 points for Tigers.
Men’s Division 1
GT Storm d St Mary’s Orange
WEDNESDAY’S early game saw GT Storm easily account for St Mary’s Orange by 21 points.
IT was a closely contested game in the first, before Orange ran out of fresh legs and got blown away in the 44-23 result.
The biggest margin of the first half was five points, as GT Storm did just enough to go into half time with a 27-23 advantage.
Orange struggled to get going after the break, and was unable to add to its half time score, as GT Storm piled on 17 points to claim victory.
Lachlan Rentsch (17 points) and Wynn Rentsch (15 points) were the standouts on the court, while Archie Porter’s seven points was St Mary’s Orange’s top-scorer.
Barber Boys d St Mary’s Black
THE late game saw Barber Boys hold off St Mary’s Black by four points to claim their first win of the season.
St Mary’s Black started strongly, holding a 20-13 lead at half time, before Barber Boys rallied in the second half and went on to claim the round two victory.
Joel Le Roy was instrumental for Barber Boys, putting up 17 points, while Angus Hayden-Simpson chipped in with 13 points in support for the winners.
Matthew Calvert was Black’s best with 15 points.
