IT is set to be the biggest night of Jayden Riddle’s professional boxing career, getting in the ring as part of tonight’s event in Newcastle.
The main card features Nikita Tszyu, but Riddle will be on the undercard against New South Wales’ Jason Fawcett in a super welterweight bout.
The four-round contest will play into Riddle’s favour, with the 31-year-old excited about the prospect.
“I just want to make a statement, it is only a four-round bout,” he told The Spectator.
“I have been sparring six and eight rounds, so I will have a high work rate throughout the four rounds.”
Coming off a 12-week fight camp, the local is feeling fresh after a strong preparation for his interstate debut.
“It was probably about 12 weeks, so I am well and truly ready and the hard work is done,” Riddle said.
“We normally do eight weeks minimum, so this was a little bit longer but we are always in the gym.”
As for his first bout on a televised card, which is expected to be shown on Fox Sports this afternoon, Riddle said it wouldn’t add to the nerves on the day.
“Nah not at all, it just gets you more excited I think,” he said.
“You train forever to get on the cards like this, to fight under this promoter and hopefully put on a show.”
Fawcett is undefeated after three fights and will be a tough test for the local boxer.
Riddle’s teammate at Mocka’s Boxing Club, Donald ‘Duck’ Jones is also in action this weekend, travelling to Adelaide for the Super 8s in which he is guaranteed three bouts in as many days.
