IT was a mixed day for Mocka’s Boxing Club, with Jayden Riddle and Donald ‘Duck’ Jones in action at the weekend.
Riddle was part of the Super Saturday card in Newcastle, losing a points decision to Jason Fawcett, while Jones was in Adelaide and went 2-1 over the three-day event.
Club coach, Ray ‘Mocka’ McIntosh said despite both fighters encountering losses, it was a good hit-out for both of them ahead of big fights next month.
“I am happy with how both of them went,” he said.
“Jayden lost on points, two judges had it as a draw and one had it the local’s way, if it went another round or two, Jayden would have definitely won it.
“But it was a good workout for him though, he needed the hit-out.
“It was good to see the high calibre boxers, end of the day Jayden is a 6-8 round fighter, so he was just warming up and it was a good lead-up fight for Hobart.”
For Jones, it was a big weekend with three bouts in as many days.
“Duck excelled, his first bout Friday night was a decision we didn’t want, but the next two he lifted,” McIntosh said.
“He had three bouts in three days and finished with the one loss and two wins, which was a good lead-up for Australian nationals next month in Adelaide.
“Now it is just a matter of keeping fresh and tidying up a few things.”
Katie Riddle is also busy preparing for a return to the ring, having had a few years off after having kids.
“Katie’s training schedule is going really well also, I have got her some high-quality sparring, so she is tracking nicely,” McIntosh said.
“The rest of the gym will be in action on December 3 in Mount Gambier.”
