THE second ever Western District Girls Shield started yesterday with the Hamilton and District Cricket Association (HDCA) once again hosting the now annual event.

With teams in both the Under-18 and Under-14 competitions, the HDCA squads will be in front of home crowds.

Jess Field will captain the Under-18 team and is ready to embrace the event.

“It is very exciting, even just seeing girls cricket developing in Hamilton and to now have our own tournament, people messaging me and putting their names down is good,” she said.
